With over three decades in India’s apparel market, Cantabil Retail India is entering its next phase of growth with a sharper focus on retail expansion, store productivity, and portfolio diversification. With 667 Exclusive Brand Outlets across the country, the value-fashion brand is strengthening its presence across Tier II and Tier III markets while exploring larger-format stores in select Tier I and Tier II cities.
“Our focus has remained on building a scalable and sustainable retail business, with growth driven by our product portfolio, retail expansion, operational efficiencies, and understanding of evolving consumer preferences,” expressed Deepak Bansal, Whole-Time Director, Cantabil Retail India Ltd.
Retail Network Mix
The Cantabil retail network is spread across India, with Tier I cities accounting for 20 percent of its stores, while Tier II and Tier III cities account for around 40 percent each. The northern region continues to be its strongest market, followed by the western and eastern regions.
“Our presence across smaller cities and towns has been an important part of our retail expansion. At the same time, we see an opportunity to strengthen our presence in larger markets through select larger-format stores, particularly where the market provides an opportunity to offer a wider product assortment,” shared Bansal.
Expansion Plans
Retail expansion will remain an important growth driver for Cantabil in FY27. The brand plans to add stores across its existing markets while entering newer geographies.
In terms of expansion, the brand plans to open larger-format stores of around 5,000–8,000 sq. ft. in select Tier I and Tier II markets.
“These stores allow us to offer a wider range of products and categories and are particularly relevant in markets where we see stronger potential for a larger retail format,” expressed Bansal.
Additionally, Tier III markets will continue to be an important part of the brand’s expansion strategy through established store formats. The company is also evaluating an entry into South India in the next few years, which will mark an important step in broadening its geographic presence.
Highest-Selling Categories
Men’s apparel remains Cantabil’s strongest category and contributes around 25 percent of its overall revenue. This is followed by trousers and denims. The brand is also working to increase the contribution of footwear and accessories within its existing retail network.
“Footwear contributed approximately ₹14–15 crore last year, and we are targeting around ₹35 crore from the category during the current financial year. Accessories currently contribute approximately 5% of sales, intending to increase this to around 6%,” explained Bansal.
Cantabil plans to build these categories within its existing store network, particularly through larger stores, rather than create separate formats for them.
Factors Behind Sustained Growth
Cantabil recorded Same Store Sales Growth of 4.04% in Q1 FY27. The performance was supported by steady demand across its existing store network, continued traction in its core categories, and improvements in store productivity.
“We have also been working on strengthening our product offering in line with changing consumer preferences. This includes greater use of versatile fabrics, stretchable and wrinkle-resistant products, along with more contemporary designs across our collections,” shared Bansal.
For the full financial year, Cantabil is targeting Same Store Sales Growth of 5–6%.
Upcoming Launches
Looking ahead, Cantabil plans to strengthen its existing categories rather than enter multiple new segments. The brand sees significant opportunities to deepen its presence through new collections, product development, and a wider range of styles within its current portfolio.
“We are particularly focused on developing products that respond to changing consumer requirements, including more versatile fabrics, stretchable and wrinkle-resistant products, and contemporary casual wear,” highlighted Bansal.
The brand is particularly looking to expand its presence across the women’s wear and kids’ wear segments. It currently has around 65 exclusive stores dedicated to these categories and plans to add another 10–15 stores during FY27.
Gearing Up for the Festive Season
The festive and wedding season is an important period for the apparel industry, and Cantabil plans to focus on strengthening its occasion-wear offerings within its existing product categories. While Cantabil does not operate in ethnic wear, the brand plans to capture festive and wedding occasions through its Indo-western collection for both men and women.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for contemporary options that can work across social, festive, and formal occasions, and our focus will be on catering to this requirement through the right products and collections. We will also ensure that stores are adequately stocked across key categories and markets ahead of the season, with inventory planning aligned to expected demand,” shared Bansal.
Standing Out in the Market
Cantabil has positioned itself as a value-fashion brand, with various factors setting it apart in the market. The brand operates with in-house manufacturing capabilities, allowing it to maintain greater control over products and operations. It also has a strong presence beyond the largest cities, with a significant part of its store network spread across Tier II and Tier III markets.
Additionally, it continues to evolve its product portfolio in response to changing consumer preferences, with greater emphasis on contemporary designs, versatile fabrics, and products suited to different occasions.
“Ultimately, our focus is on offering consumers a combination of product variety, quality and value through a convenient retail network,” expressed Bansal.
Growth Targets and Long-Term Vision
Cantabil plans to achieve Rs 1,000 crore in annual revenue by FY27, supported by continued retail expansion, healthy same-store sales growth, improved store productivity, and a stronger product portfolio.
“Our vision is to build Cantabil into a stronger Pan-India apparel retail brand with a larger and more productive store network and a wider product portfolio. Our approach will continue to focus on measured expansion, disciplined execution, and sustainable growth, while we strengthen our position in India’s value-fashion market,” concluded Bansal.
