Diageo India & SCPwD Collaborate for Skill Training

Diageo India, a prominent player in the alcoholic beverage industry, has partnered with the Skill Council for People with Disabilities (SCPwD) to provide training for 300 individuals with disabilities as part of its 'Learning for Life' program.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from NAB Karnataka and various industry leaders.

This initiative reflects Diageo India's dedication to promoting inclusion and diversity, which is a core aspect of Diageo's Society 2030: Spirit of Progress objectives.

“Driven by the common objective of creating a vibrant and diverse workforce, we are delighted to expand ourpartnership with the Skill Council for Persons with Disability. Last year, we began this initiative by extending the scope of our‘Learning for Life’ programme, to include the PwD community to help them overcome employment barriers. We strengthen our commitment this year to promotesustainable growth by scaling up this programme to provide equal access to the right resources, skills, and employment opportunities across India.” said Hina Nagarajan, MD & CEO, Diageo India.

The residential training programs will take place in SCPwD-affiliated training centers across India, facilitated by certified trainers and assessors.

These programs aim to prepare students for positions in the Business and Hospitality sectors, aiming to improve productivity and address skill gaps as they transition into the workforce.

"We are delighted to partnerwith Diageo India whose commitment to inclusion and diversity is exemplary.Last year, we trained 100 Persons with Disabilities as part of Diageo India’s ‘Learning for Life’ programme. The success of this programme encourages us to expand this specially curated programme which focuses on providing hands-on training in hospitality skills and enhance employment opportunities.” said Ravindra Singh, CEO, Skill Council for Persons with Disability (SCPwD).

In the upcoming year, the initial group of 100 students will successfully complete Diageo India's 'Learning for Life' program.

The subsequent batch of 300 students will encompass individuals who are visually impaired, have low vision, or are speech and hearing impaired.

This customized program incorporates specialized learning modules and assistive technologies, including the provision of sign language instructors, to facilitate effective learning and skill development.

Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre (NHCC) and Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) have installed a solar power system as part of their sustainability initiatives. The system comprises 1,818 solar panels across 48,904 square feet, with a capacity of 1000 KWp. It is expected to generate 4,000 units per day and 1,460,000 units annually, covering 50 percent of HICC’s energy requirements.

This initiative is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 1,022 tons per year. The Rs 2.6 crore investment in the system is anticipated to result in annual savings of Rs 1.17 crore, with a return on investment in 2.22 years. The project aligns with the property’s long-term goal of integrating sustainable practices into its operations.

The solar installation is part of a broader sustainability framework at NHCC and HICC. The property, which includes 287 rooms and a 65,000 sq. ft. pillar-less convention center, has incorporated multiple eco-friendly solutions into its operations.

NHCC is the first hotel in the region to adopt atmospheric water generation technology through O by Aria Life Water, which extracts and remineralizes water from the air, reducing groundwater dependence. The dual solar power and water heating system generates electricity while heating 4,000 liters of water daily. Additionally, food waste management has been improved using Orbisk technology, which tracks and optimizes food consumption to minimize waste.

NHCC and HICC have received the Green Key Certification, an internationally recognized eco-label for sustainable practices. By reducing reliance on conventional energy sources, the property aims to contribute to India’s renewable energy movement while maintaining operational efficiency.

SAMHI Hotels Limited has announced the sale of its entire stake in Duet India Hotels (Chennai OMR) Pvt. Ltd. for Rs 535 million. The subsidiary, part of the ACIC Portfolio, owned 116 rooms at Four Points by Sheraton, Chennai OMR.  

For the nine-month period ending December 31, 2024, the subsidiary reported total revenue of Rs 110 million, an EBITDA of Rs 23 million, and a net loss of Rs 33 million.  

Ashish Jakhanwala, CEO and Managing Director of SAMHI Hotels stated, “We are pleased to announce the successful completion of this transaction, which is an important step in executing our capital recycling strategy. The immediate application of the capital will be focused on reducing our debt thereby enabling us to strengthen our balance sheet. Kevadia has become a key tourist destination due to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The area has seen increased visitor footfall, supported by improved infrastructure and connectivity.

Anamore is an extension of Cygnett’s diversified strategy, moving beyond its established mid-segment market. “Our vision for Anamore is bold and forward-looking. As Navi Mumbai prepares to host the much-awaited Coldplay concert in January 2025, the hospitality sector in India is witnessing a sharp rise in hotel prices. A recent study by Sciative Solutions, a leader in AI-driven dynamic pricing and revenue management, reveals significant pricing adjustments across various hotel categories in response to the high demand.  

The report compared hotel rates from September 2024, a regular month, with January 2025, when the concert is scheduled. Budget accommodations priced between Rs 3,000 and Rs 6,000 experienced a decline in availability, with most rooms in this category sold out. Mid-range hotels, priced at Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000, saw rates doubling, while accommodations in the Rs 9,000 to Rs 15,000 range recorded a threefold increase. Luxury properties reported the most significant surge, with prices rising over five times their regular rates.  

Hotels within a 7 km radius of the concert venue recorded the steepest price hikes, with rates tripling compared to standard levels. Properties located farther away experienced more modest increases. The peak in pricing occurred on concert days, particularly on January 18, 2025, when room rates surged more than two-and-a-half times compared to the previous week.  

Four- and five-star hotels in Navi Mumbai faced high early demand, with many selling out as early as September 2024. This early sell-out led to missed opportunities for these properties to adjust rates further for last-minute bookings, which could have maximized their revenue.

The Upper HSE features a unique glasshouse design with an oval-shaped structure spanning over 10,000 square feet and reaching 40 feet in height. This layout maximizes space and natural light while connecting seamlessly to an expansive 40,000-square-foot lawn. The design creates a flexible setting for events of varying scales.

The venue’s high ceilings provide space for elaborate décor, including chandeliers and custom installations. The Upper HSE partners with Gourmet Aura, a luxury catering service with over 40 years of experience. The collaboration ensures high-quality culinary offerings tailored to each event’s requirements.

Equipped with modern event technology, the venue includes advanced audiovisual systems, customizable lighting, and premium sound systems. These features create immersive experiences for events ranging from conferences and fashion shows to weddings.

The venue can accommodate between 250 and 1,000 guests, making it suitable for both large-scale and intimate gatherings. With plans to expand The Upper HSE brand across Delhi NCR and beyond, Tivoli Hospitality Group aims to redefine premium event hosting in the region.

Her experience in the alcohol and beverage sector helped her navigate regulatory environments while launching brands across India. Her stints at Zomato and Dineout expanded her knowledge of F&B marketing, market research, and consumer behavior.

While previously at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake, Kanchan played a pivotal role in relaunching the Mayouchi Restaurant, creating a signature beverage program, and driving social media campaigns that boosted footfall and revenue.

In her new role, Kanchan is set to strengthen The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake’s market positioning as a premier luxury destination in Mumbai.
