Hospitality Franchise News: Hilton Targets Rapid Hospitality Expansion in India with 150 Spark by Hilton Hotels

Hilton has marked the Asia Pacific debut of its Spark by Hilton brand with the opening of its first two properties in India, located in Bengaluru and Goa. The launch represents a significant milestone in the hospitality group's expansion strategy and forms part of a larger agreement with Olive Hospitality to develop 150 Spark by Hilton hotels across India over the coming years.

The introduction of Spark by Hilton strengthens Hilton’s presence in one of its fastest-growing markets globally. Positioned as a value-driven hospitality brand, Spark by Hilton is designed to offer reliable, comfortable, and quality stays at an accessible price point, catering to a growing segment of travelers seeking branded accommodation without compromising on service standards.

Launched globally in 2023, Spark by Hilton has emerged as one of Hilton’s fastest-scaling brands, with more than 240 operating hotels and nearly 230 properties in development across markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other international destinations. The India launch marks the brand’s entry into Asia Pacific and supports Hilton’s broader strategy of expanding its portfolio across diverse traveler segments.

The first Indian property, Spark by Hilton Bengaluru Marathahalli Outer Ring Road, features 82 keys and is strategically located within one of Bengaluru’s major commercial and technology hubs. Situated near prominent business districts and technology parks, the hotel is positioned to serve corporate travelers, meetings and events demand, and business-related stays. The second property, the 64-key Spark by Hilton Goa Calangute, caters to leisure travelers, group bookings, corporate offsites, and travel agency-driven business in one of the country's most popular tourism destinations.

Commenting on the launch, Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton, said, “India continues to be one of Hilton’s most exciting growth markets in Asia Pacific, fuelled by strong travel demand, rising consumer confidence and an expanding appetite for quality branded stays. The debut of Spark by Hilton marks an important milestone in our bid to serve more guests across all stay occasions, while accelerating our ability to grow at scale with the right partners. Together with Olive Hospitality, we are bringing a brand to market that is built for today’s traveller – simple, reliable and rooted in Hilton’s signature hospitality.”

To cater specifically to Indian traveler preferences, the brand has introduced localized features while maintaining its global identity. Guests can access complimentary breakfast offerings that include DIY dosa stations, self-service chai carts, and technology-enabled conveniences such as digital check-in, Digital Key access, service request support, and Hilton Honors app integration. Select locations will also offer in-room dining, fitness facilities, and vending machines stocked with travel essentials and snacks.

Highlighting the significance of the regional launch, Tal Shefer, senior vice president, Brand Management, Asia Pacific, Hilton, said, “The debut of Spark by Hilton in India reflects our continued focus on bringing the right brands to the right markets across Asia Pacific. As traveller expectations evolve, there is growing demand for stays that consistently offer reliable essentials, thoughtful simplicity and friendly hospitality. Spark by Hilton is designed to meet this need with a smart, approachable experience that prioritizes what matters most to guests. We are excited to see the brand take its first step in the region with these openings in Bengaluru and Goa, and to build on its momentum as it expands across India.”

Olive Hospitality, Hilton’s strategic development partner for the brand in India, views the rollout as a major opportunity to expand organized branded hospitality across underserved markets. Kahraman Yigit, co-founder and CEO, Olive Hospitality, said, “We believe Spark by Hilton has the potential to redefine what value-driven hospitality looks like in India. What makes the brand especially relevant for this region is its ability to scale efficiently through conversions, backed by the strength and global recognition of Hilton. The model is designed to unlock growth across markets where branded hospitality supply remains limited, while offering owners a faster pathway into an institutional hospitality ecosystem and ensuring guests benefit from Hilton’s global standards and award-winning loyalty program. Together with Hilton, we are helping shape a more organized and reliable mid-market segment for India’s next generation of travelers.”

The latest openings follow the announcement of the first 10 Spark by Hilton hotel signings in India. As part of its aggressive growth roadmap, additional properties are planned across major business and leisure destinations including Jaipur, Nashik, Mathura, Pune, Rajkot, and Hyderabad. With 150 hotels targeted nationwide, Hilton and Olive Hospitality are positioning Spark by Hilton as a scalable growth platform aimed at strengthening branded hospitality penetration across India's rapidly expanding travel and tourism market.

Hospitality Franchise News: IHG Eyes Long-Term India Growth Through Branded Hospitality Expansion
Hospitality Franchise News: IHG Eyes Long-Term India Growth Through Branded Hospitality Expansion

IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its expansion in India, with luxury brands, hotel conversions and airport-linked developments emerging as key pillars of its growth strategy amid rising travel demand across the country.

The UK-based hospitality company, which operates brands including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Six Senses, is targeting a portfolio of 400 operational and pipeline properties in India by 2030. In 2025, IHG had 52 operating hotels in the country and another 98 properties in the pipeline. Globally, the company operated 6,963 hotels as of December 2025.

According to Ishaan Koul, Director of Naaz Hotel Consultants, IHG’s India strategy reflects the broader efforts of global hotel companies to strengthen their presence across the country’s expanding hospitality landscape.

“IHG is clearly broadening its playbook in India. For years, its growth was concentrated around Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, but over the past two years, the company has become far more active in the upper-upscale and luxury segments. We’ve seen a visible increase in InterContinental and Crowne Plaza signings, the introduction of new lifestyle and collection brands," Koul said.

Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the company remains focused on building long-term and sustainable growth in India.

“What has changed (now) is that the market fundamentals have also strengthened and so have our owner relationships,” Jain said.

He attributed the growth momentum to economic expansion, rising disposable incomes, infrastructure development and increasing travel among younger consumers. Strong performance across the hospitality sector over the past several years has also strengthened owner confidence, resulting in a significant share of recent signings coming from existing partners expanding their relationship with IHG.

While Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express continue to form the backbone of IHG’s India portfolio, accounting for around 35 operating hotels and 68 properties in the pipeline, the company is increasingly focusing on higher-end segments to drive future growth.

In May, IHG announced a partnership with Adani Airport Holdings to develop approximately 1,500 hotel rooms across five properties. The collaboration includes the introduction of luxury lifestyle brand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants through a hotel project in Jaipur. The remaining projects will comprise Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties linked to airport developments in Navi Mumbai, Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram.

“We were conscious and deliberate with our luxury strategy. Today we have five operating luxury and lifestyle assets in the region and 10 more in the pipeline,” he said.

The company is also expanding Garner, its midscale conversion brand, which is being rolled out largely through a franchise-led model. IHG has already signed seven Garner properties in India.

“If you’ve got to grow in India, you’ve got to grow beyond metros. People are moving from unbranded to branded hotels and that preference is changing not just in metros but in smaller cities and towns as well,” he said.

Conversions allow unbranded hotels to join a global hospitality ecosystem through franchising, a model that is expected to play a larger role in IHG’s India growth strategy going forward.

The company’s India portfolio is currently recording occupancy levels in the 70% range and remains on track for double-digit growth this year. Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad continue to be among its strongest-performing markets.

“I don’t foresee this changing in the near future,” Jain said.

Cygnett Hotels Builds Scale with 45 Operational Properties and New Openings
Cygnett Hotels Builds Scale with 45 Operational Properties and New Openings

Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has completed 12 years of operations, marking a major milestone in its journey from a regional hospitality player to one of India's growing hotel management companies. Over the past decade, the company has built a network of 45 operational hotels and resorts while expanding its presence across more than 41 destinations nationwide. Today, the hospitality group manages over 4,000 operational and under-development keys and is preparing for its next phase of growth through an extensive development pipeline.

Founded in 2014, Cygnett adopted a market strategy focused on Tier II and Tier III cities, along with the North East region, well before these destinations emerged as key growth centres for the hospitality sector. At a time when many hotel brands concentrated their investments in metropolitan markets, the company pursued opportunities in regional destinations, pilgrimage centres, business hubs, and developing tourism circuits. This approach helped establish an early presence in locations such as Ayodhya and several cities across the North East, markets that have subsequently witnessed stronger infrastructure development, improved connectivity, and increasing travel demand.

Over the years, the company has expanded its portfolio through multiple hospitality brands catering to different traveller segments. Its current portfolio includes Cygnett Hotels, Cygnett Park, Cygnett Inn, Cozzet, Cygnett Resort/Retreat, and Anamore, the group's upper-upscale hospitality platform focused on experiential travel offerings. The multi-brand strategy has enabled the company to serve a wide range of guests while supporting expansion into diverse markets across India.

As part of its long-term growth plans, Cygnett is advancing a robust development pipeline scheduled for completion over the next 24 to 30 months. New hotel projects are planned across several strategic destinations, including Pushkar, Jaipur, Kasauli-Kiarighat, Srinagar, Goa, Sonapur, Guwahati, Itanagar, Jim Corbett, Gurugram, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chail, Ujjain, Panvel, Murud, Tirupati, Vrindavan, Tawang, Motihari, Dhanbad, and Kharagpur. These projects are expected to further strengthen the company's footprint across leisure, pilgrimage, business, and emerging tourism markets.

A significant pillar of Cygnett's expansion strategy is its partnership with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Through the alliance, the company gains access to Wyndham's global distribution infrastructure, international sales channels, and Wyndham Rewards, which has more than 122 million enrolled members worldwide. The collaboration is also supporting the evolution of Cygnett's brand portfolio by enabling properties to operate under Wyndham-affiliated hospitality platforms.

The partnership is already influencing future developments, with upcoming hotels expected to operate under brands including Cygnett Hotels, Cygnett Park, Cygnett Inn, and Cozzet through Trademark Collection by Wyndham. Meanwhile, Anamore and Anamore Select are expected to be aligned with Registry Collection Hotels by Wyndham and La Quinta by Wyndham. Several existing properties have already joined the Trademark Collection® by Wyndham portfolio, including hotels located in Jaipur, Itanagar, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Bhubaneswar, and Ayodhya.

"When we started Cygnett twelve years ago, we were convinced that India's hospitality growth story would increasingly be shaped by emerging cities and untapped destinations. The North East, pilgrimage centres and regional markets offered immense potential, and our strategy was built around participating in this transformation long before it became an industry trend," said Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.

He further added, "As we enter the next phase of growth, our focus is on creating a globally connected hospitality platform rooted in regional India. Our partnership with Wyndham, expanding portfolio of brands and strong development pipeline position us well to capitalise on the evolving travel landscape and create long-term value for our stakeholders."

Looking ahead, the company expects future opportunities to be driven by spiritual tourism, experiential travel, destination weddings, and infrastructure-led commercial growth beyond traditional metropolitan markets. Backed by a growing hotel network, strong brand portfolio, and active development pipeline, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has set an ambitious target of surpassing 100 hotels and 10,000 keys by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a leading hospitality platform across India and South Asia.
